Principles of treatment include the following:
- Gaining trust and reducing fear through playful interaction.
- Helping families create a balance of nurture and structure.
- Experiential methods-new behavior is learned when the child is an active learner.
- Treatment is family focused with caregivers involved in most, if not all, sessions.
- A sensory rich environment in order to activate all of the child's senses.
- "Matching"- assisting the caregivers and the child in the attachment "dance".
* Encourage the positive.
